Description:
Large sized, small billed and long tailed tree dwelling rock-thrush. Male has chestnut-red underparts and blue upperparts including rump, uppertail-coverts and tail. Female has orange-buff lores and neck patch, dark malar stripe, dark barring on slaty olive-brown upperparts, and heavy scaling on underparts.
Distribution:
Possible summer visitor to the western parts of Ghizer district, neighboring Malakhand. Found in open moist coniferous forest edges with juniper, pine, fir or oak, amid steep cliffs, rocky hillsides, boulders and streambeds, at 1800-3400m.
Behavior:
Forages mainly on ground, but often perches high in bare trees, and occasionally makes fly-catching sorties from high branches. Mainly feeds on small to large insects, such as craneflies, and including large ones such as cicadas; also molluscs and small lizards, sometimes berries.
